Issue Description:
Ultra 60 systems shipped out of Sun UK may experience crystal reliability
issues which results in mutliple failure types as listed below.
Failure symptoms are varied, as all I/O devices or busses are potentially
affected but appear to occur (most predominantly) in humid environmental
conditions, with TTF's (time to fail) from hours up to several months.
The reported failure symptoms are as follows;
- At power ON, system is dead
- After power on, no video (OBP hang when probe keyboard)
- Booting disk failed due to following messages;
Bad magic number in disk label
Can't open disk label package
- POST failed due to Psycho test or ecpptest
Only Solectron-UK (United Kingdom) built boards are affected because of a
Solectron Manufacturing process issue. Affected Ultra 60 motherboards
are identifiable by both the "Made in UK" label on the motherboard and the
Solectron Trace ability (STARS) label (located by sun part number label)
with datecode between 4398 and 3399. For Solectron Scotland built boards,
this label will begin with "SSL" followed by the STARS number. Ultra 60
motherboards built in the United States are not affected.
Root cause analysis has determined that all failures are due to malfunction
of TDK ceramic resonators at location X2401(24MHz) and location X3001(16.6MHz).
Good boards can be identified by the StopShip label "WSS200#12964" on both the
board and the outside of the box, by the Deport Change Order label "DPCO#159"
on board stiffener bar, or by the Process Alert labels "PA200#13003" or
"PA200#13004".

Special Considerations:
Only Soletron UK built Ultra 60 motherboards with date codes between 4398 and
3399 are affected.
Corrective Action:
Upon failure replace affected 501-4450-13 with 501-4450-13 (or above) not
built in the Uk, or having one of the following labels;
"WSS200#12964"
"DPCO#159"
"PA200#13003"
"PA200#13004"
Billing Type:
