Issue Description:
The SunFire Power Supply (p/n 300-1301-03) can cause false error messages
to be reported when running POST, prtdiag, or during system boot-up. The
Power Supply Amber LED will be OFF and the Green LED will be ON, which
indicates that the Power Supply is functioning normally. Other than
these false error messages there is no impact to the operation of the
system. Examples of these power supply failure messages are given in the
SYMPTOMS section below.
Root cause has determined that the internal cable from the PCB to the front
panel LEDs was mis-routed and wedged between the heatsink and the input
capacitor. This cable is picking up switching noise and causing the
transistor (Q53) to oscillate the PCMFAIL_L signal from about 0.5 volts to
about 3 volts at a 5 microsecond period.
This mis-routing was determined to be a process issue at the vendor and only
affects power supplies (p/n 300-1301-03) with date codes of 0016 to 0027.
The power supply date code can be checked by reading the bar-code label
as follows;
Check second line for Sun part number. If 300-1301-03 check first line.
First line format is vvvvvvv-yywwssssss where vvvvvvv is the vendor code,
yyww is the date code (yy is year, ww is week), and ssssss is the serial
number.
Examples: 0016164-0020C24781 (affected power supply)
0016164-0028C25673 (power supply is not affected)
If a power supply in the affected date code range has the Worldwide
StopShip/Purge Label "WSS200#14533" it should be considered good.
It is estimated that only 685 power supplies were shipped out of Sun
Manufacturing, in the above affected systems and as FRUs, from April 10, 2000
to July 10, 2000. Sun Manufacturing was unable to provide affected system
serial numbers or a range of system serial numbers that might be affected.
Although no affected power supplies were shipped with any Enterprise Server
E3000, E4000, E5000 or E6000 systems, they may have been installed in one of
these systems as a result of field service replacement activity.
Corrective action was implemented in Sun Manufacturing on July 10, 2000 via
Worldwide StopShip/Purge WSS200#14533. Corrective action was taken in
Enterprise Services on September 18, 2000 via Depot Change Order (DPCO) 199.

Corrective Action:
If any of the above error messages are observed, the Sun Authorized
Service Representative should visually inspect the power supply's
LED status indicators. If the LED's indicate normal operation
(Green is ON and Amber is OFF), the power supply is one of the affected
parts. It should be replaced at customer request but may be left
in the system. Leaving the power supply in the system will not have
any impact on system operation.
If the LED's indicate a true error condition (Green is OFF or Amber is ON),
the power supply is not one of the affected parts but should be replaced
as defective.
When replacing one of the affected power supplies,
replace 300-1301-03 (in the affected date code range) with
a) 300-1301-03 (or above) outside of the affected date code range,
or
b) 300-1301-03 (or above) having the Worldwide StopShip/Purge Label
"WSS200#14553",
or
c) 300-1301-03 (or above) having the Depot Change Order Label "DPCO#199".

Sun Enterprise 6500/5500/4500 Systems Reference Manual
(Sun p/n 805-2632-10) which can be located on EDIST via the
URL listed in the REFERENCES section above.
Billing Type:
Warranty: Sun will provide parts at no charge under Warranty
Service. On-Site Labor Rates are based on how the
system was initially installed.
Contract: Sun will provide parts at no charge. On-Site Labor Rates
are based on the type of service contract.
Non Contract: Sun will provide parts at no charge. Installation by
Sun is available based on the On-Site Labor Rates
defined in the Price List.

all known customers to recommend the part upgrade.
ii) For controlled proactive swap FCOs, Enterprise Services mission critical
