FRU parts returned to Business Systems Division repair depot without failing information is impacting the FRU part repair cycle time.

Product Category: System
Product Affected:
Ultra Enterprise 10000
	CS6400 - Cray SuperServer 6400
Parts Affected:
N/A

The Failure Information Form located at:

                http://bsd.west/Departments/Manufacturing/Quality
Issue Description:
The repair cycle time on UE10000 & CS6400 FRU parts, being returned
from the field, has been unnecessarily long due to incomplete or
nonexistent failure information accompanying the returned part.

Reducing the amount of time it takes to reproduce a failure would
dramatically reduce the repair cycle time and allow the component to
be returned to the spares pool in less time.

Error information of interest would be; console messages, domain
messages, post logs, and, if available, arbstop and recordstop dumps.
These files, with the exception of console messages, can be found on
the ssp in the directory /var/opt/SUNWssp/adm/$SUNW_HOSTNAME for the
UE10000 system and /var/opt/CYRSssp/$CRAY_HOSTNAME for the CS6400
system.
Corrective Action:
Fill out the repair form as completely as possible and make sure that
it accompanies the FRU part being returned for repair. If it was
possible to get the arbstop and recordstop dumps, please email them to
the following email address;

			E10K.RMA@oregon.west.sun.com

The form and the email alias has been created to facilitate the return
of error information for parts being returned to the Business Systems
Division, BSD, repair depot.

The Failure Information Form can be found at:

		http://bsd.west/Departments/Manufacturing/Quality

or it can be found on Edist.
Comments:
Including this information will aide the BSD repair depot in knowing
what problem to look for, if not point out the failure directly, which
will cut down the repair process time for the FRU parts.
