MANUAL: 805-4651-10 Sun Enterprise 10000 System Hardware Installation
         and De-Installation Guide
MANUAL: 805-0310-11 Sun Enterprise 10000 System Overview Manual
Issue Description:
On page 1 of chapter 2 in the Sun Enterprise 10000 System Overview Manual,
it states that the SSP is built from a SPARCstation 5 with 32 Mbytes of
RAM and a 1-Gbyte disk. However, the FCS'ed SS5 SSP (2750A) was shipped
with a 2.1-Gbyte disk.

Also, the Sun Enterprise 10000 System Hardware Installation and
De-Installation Guide shows the following disk partitioning table:

	  	"Table 10-1 Disk Partition"

    ----------------------------------------------------
    slice 0 / 745 Mbytes

    slice 1 swap 256 Mbytes
    ----------------------------------------------------

The table shown above is based on a 1-Gbyte disk. However, the SS5 SSP
nor any other supported SSP, ever ship with a 1-Gbyte disk. Thus, if
the installer were to rebuild the SSP boot disk from this table, there
is a risk of the SSP running out of disk space. In addition, future
SSP software and OS upgrades would render the SSP "out of disk space"
because 1GB or more of disk space will go unused.
Implementation:
---
        | | MANDATORY (Fully Pro-Active)
         ---

         ---
        | | CONTROLLED PRO-ACTIVE (per Sun Geo Plan)
         ---

         ---
        | X | REACTIVE (As Required)
         ---
Corrective Action:
Authorized Enterprise Field Service Representatives should follow the
recommendation shown below in order to avoid the above mentioned
problem in cases where the SSP boot disk is rebuilt.

NOTE: This corrective action applies to ALL supported systems supported
as an SSP. i.e., SPARCstation 5, Ultra 5 or the E250.

When rebuilding the OS on a SSP boot disk it is recommended to install
the "Full Distribution plus OEM Support". In the "Customize Disk:"
screen, setup the disk partitions for the root disk as shown below:

    ----------------------------------------------------
slice 0 / remainder of free

    slice 1 swap 256 Mbytes
    ----------------------------------------------------
Comments:
The SPARCstation 5 SSP was last price listed in July 1998. It was re-
placed by the Ultra 5 on the September 1998 price list. Just recently,
the Enterprise 250 was announced as being available as an SSP.

Part Number 806-1502-05 Sun Enterprise 10000 SSP 3.2 Installation Guide
and Release Notes are expected to be released with the Sol 7 11/99
release, the above mentioned corrective action will be included.
