Issue Description:
If you insert a common off-the-shelf CP1500 board (commonly called the
Nordica) into a Sun Fire 15K System Controller (SC), it will have
two new and different MAC-addresses compared with the defective one. As
a result of this new MAC-address, the hostid of the System Controller
will change.
The above will result in failure when trying to boot or install the SC
over the network, since no hosts will respond to its new MAC-adress. Also,
software licensed against the old hostid will stop working.
The CP1500's ID-board is the part providing the MAC-addresses to what
is known as the SC, of which the SC board also is a part. The CP1500's
ID-board contains 2 MAC-addresses, the SC board contains no
MAC-addresses. The CP1500 FRU comes with an ID-board in place.
Therefore, as a result of putting a different off-the-shelf CP1500 into
the SC board, it will have new addresses.
There is a relation between MAC-address and hostid. Changing the MAC
address will affect the system hostid.
Therefore, it is recommended that the original MAC-addresses and hostid
be preserved whenever a defective CP1500 board is replaced.

Corrective Action:
The following recommendation is provided as a guideline for authorized
Enterprise Services Field Representatives who may encounter the above
mentioned issue.
1. Locate the ID-BOARD on the CP1500. This can be found in the online
Sun Systems Handbook, http://infoserver.central/data/syshbk/
Components -> System Boards -> SPARCengineCP1500
2. Determine the SC's original MAC-adress:
. if the SC is still capable of getting to the OBP prompt,
write down the Ethernet Address shown by the "banner" command
. if the SC is not capable of getting to the OBP prompt, use the
following:
. address bytes 1-3 will have the value "08:00:20" or "00:03:BA".
. address bytes 4-6 can be read off the yellow sticker on the
ID-BOARD 370-3997-01 on boards manufactured before 8/14/01.
. address bytes 1-6 can be read off the yellow sticker on the
ID-BOARD 370-3997-02 on boards manufactured after 8/14/01.
3. Exchange ID-BOARD's between replacement and defective CP1500.
4. Verify the MAC-addresses on the replacement CP1500 being the same
as the ones found in step 2, by running the "banner" command at
the OBP prompt.

Implementation Footnote:
i) In case of MANDATORY FINs, Enterprise Services will attempt to
contact all affected customers to recommend implementation of
the FIN.
ii) For CONTROLLED PROACTIVE FINs, Enterprise Services mission
critical
support teams will recommend implementation of the FIN (to their
respective accounts), at the convenience of the customer.
iii) For REACTIVE FINs, Enterprise Services will implement the FIN as
the
need arises.
