Issue Description:
Ultra Enterprise Exx00 systems might hang or panic due to a rare
hardware problem caused by damaged chassis springfingers in certain
card cage slots. It is possible that these systems might also
encounter an FEPS (Fast Ethernet Protocol SCSI) error during system
POST.

The problem can occur when installing I/O boards into the following:

    . E3000 slot 7
    . E3500 slot 9
    . E4X00 slot 7
    . E5X00 slot 7
    . E6X00 slot 15

It is possible during insertion of an I/O board into the above
systems/slots that the springfingers might be caught between the metal
lip of the board and its FAB causing intermittent shorting of the SCSI
BUS GROUND to the CHASSIS GROUND. This can change the level of the
SCSI bus signals to the FEPS and lead to disk subsystem problems and
system hangs.
Implementation:

Corrective Action:
The following recommendation is provided as a guideline for authorized
Enterprise Services Field Representatives who may encounter the above
mentioned problem.

Please adhere to the following I/O board insertion guideline in order
to avoid the problem mentioned above:

1) Pay special attention during insertion of every I/O board
into the slots listed below so that spring fingers do not get caught
between the metal lip of the I/O board and the board FAB. If this
happens it might short the SCSI Bus signals to chassis ground.

2) An alternate solution is to insert a CPU board into the following
slots as CPU boards do not have the same issue:

. For E3000 system, install CPU board in slot 7.
. For E3500 system, install CPU board in slot 9.
. For E4X00 system, install CPU board in slot 7.
. For E6X00 system, install CPU board in slot 15.

3) If the springfingers are damaged too badly and the board cannot be
inserted, replace the springfingers. There is no FRU number assigned
for the springfingers at this time. To get replacements, contact Grace
   Kubinski (x87880 or grace.kubinski@sun.com).

Implementation Footnote:
i) In case of MANDATORY FINs, Enterprise Services will attempt to
contact all affected customers to recommend implementation of
     the FIN.

ii) For CONTROLLED PROACTIVE FINs, Enterprise Services mission critical
support teams will recommend implementation of the FIN (to their
respective accounts), at the convenience of the customer.

iii) For REACTIVE FINs, Enterprise Services will implement the FIN as the
     need arises.
