Issue Description:
Sun Fire V1280 and Netra 1280 I/O System Controller (IB_SSC) FRUs have
been left in Manufacturing Mode. As a result of this, the customer
could receive an I/O System Controller FRU which will allow them access
to commands never intended for customer use.
The affected part numbers are 540-5290 and the 540-5565. Any FRUs with
these part numbers which were repaired by the Repair Vendor between May
2003 and August 26, 2003 are susceptible to this issue. No shipments
out of Manufacturing are impacted.
To determine if an IB_SSC unit is in Manufacturing Mode, issue a "help"
command from the lom> prompt. If you see commands such as "aft",
"fan", or "clock", the IB_SSC is in Manufacturing Mode. You must have
access to the System Controller to determine if the board has the issue
or not.
Extra commands will be available in the help menu as noted above. The
user will also be able to type "engineering" from the lom> prompt and
not be asked for a password.
Incomplete instructions provided by Sun caused the repair vendor to not
reset the I/O System Controller FRUs to the default user mode before
shipment. As a result, units repaired between May 2003 and August 26,
2003 will likely have been left in Manufacturing Mode. Newly
manufactured boards that were made available as FRUs are NOT affected.
Any existing 540-5290 and 540-5565 FRU in any RSL worldwide may have
this issue. However, less than 20 of these units are believed to
currently be in the Logistics system. Also, any of these FRUs used by
an engineer during the period mentioned above may also be affected
and should be checked.

Corrective Action:
The following recommendation is provided as a guideline for authorized
Sun Services Field Representatives who may encounter the above
mentioned issue.
If you've received either a 540-5290-xx or 540-5565-xx System
Controller, and it is determined they are in Manufacturing Mode, first
issue the following commands and record the output from these commands
to use to restore your system:
From a Solaris prompt:
eeprom
From the OBP/ok prompt:
show-devs
printenv
show-disks
show-nets
devalias
From the lom> prompt:
showeventreporting
showescape
showsc
shownetwork
showdate -v
showboards -v
Next, take the System Controller out of Manufacturing Mode by issuing
the setdefaults command from the lom> prompt. Note that this will
erase all current lom settings, so use the information gathered above
to restore any lost settings.
If for some reason setdefaults is not an acceptable solution, a
Radiance task for PTS should be initiated for alternative workarounds.
Comments:
This is only for I/O System Controller (IB_SSC) replacement FRUs.
Systems shipped from the factory were not exposed to this issue.

Implementation Footnote:
i) In case of MANDATORY FINs, Sun Services will attempt to contact
all affected customers to recommend implementation of the FIN.
ii) For CONTROLLED PROACTIVE FINs, Sun Services mission critical
support teams will recommend implementation of the FIN (to their
respective accounts), at the convenience of the customer.
iii) For REACTIVE FINs, Sun Services will implement the FIN as the
need arises.
