Impact THIS POLICY IS FOR RAID 1 CRU ONLY. If a RAID 1 system has Fujitsu drives for both the primary and secondary drives and receives a Seagate drive as a FRU, then the mirror cannot be recreated because the Seagate drive is slightly smaller than the Fujitsu. The issue is that both, SEA and FUJ disks have the same X Option (X9256A) that is used when ordering these peripherals. The V20z and V40z OEM uses "generic industry" FW for their hard drives that create different volume capacities which will impact rebuilding RAID 1 array. The following paragraph summarize the policy: Replace a RAID 1 hard drive when:
Root Cause Disk mirroring can not be recreated when the replacement drive is smaller than the drive that was replaced. Mirroring function seizes. Smaller capacity drives do not have the data capacity of the larger hard drive. Workaround All RAID 1 mirroring broken 73GB hard drives should be replaced with PN: F371-0292-xx CRUs. Resolution The correction was made as follows:
