This only affects shipped systems as described in the Corrective Action section below. Spares material is not affected, therefore no Services purge is required.

Thermal stress, shock, and certain service actions can cause the clamping action of the Bus Bar to come loose.

Potential of power faults and/or thermal events due to possible loose/poor Bus Bar connections.

The external supplier for the Sun Fire V245 Servers used incorrectly sized inserts for mounting Bus Bars in a limited number of systems.

Corrective action was made available in Manufacturing via Purge P001-20356 as of November 13, 2006.

Bus Bar Kits were made available via ECO# WO_34830 as of December 20, 2006.

IMPLEMENTATION TARGET COMPLETION DATES:

AMER:  November 12, 2007
EMEA:  November 12, 2007
APAC:  November 30, 2007

Above dates were based on when each Timezone was determined to be Materially Ready to support implementation activities. After these dates proactive remediation should cease and then this remediation should only be implemented Upon Failure.

REPLACEMENT TIME ESTIMATE: 10 Minutes

Hot Swappable: No

Proactively replace all affected Bus Bars as descibed below in the "Identifying and Remediating an Affected System" section.

  . For the Sun Fire V245 order one 541-2412-01 for each affected system.

Note: Bus Bar Replacement Procedures are included in the Bus Bar Kits.

Identifying and Remediating an Affected System:

To identify if a system is affected follow the below steps.

1) Check system serial number first:
Sun Fire V245 servers with serial numbers starting with 0645 (or earlier)
are potentially impacted by this issue and should be remediated.  If the
V245 serial number starts with 0645 or earlier, proceed to step 2.
If the Sun Fire V245 serial number starts with 0646 or higher, the system
is definitely NOT affected, and there is no need to go further.
2) Check system for StopShip/Purge sticker:
Systems with affected serial numbers that have already been remediated
either in Manufacturing, Channel Distribution or in the field will have
a sticker with the following alpha-numerics "P001-20356.A1" applied to
either side of the chassis toward the front.

For a system with StopShip/Purge sticker applied - NO FURTHER ACTION IS
REQUIRED.
If a system DOES NOT have a StopShip/Purge sticker applied, proceed to
Step 3) below.
3) If you identified your system as affected using steps 1 and 2 above,
conduct the following corrective action:
1. Refer to Instructions in Bus Bar kit and the Sun Fire V215 and V245
Servers Service Manual (819-3038-xx).
  A softcopy of these instructions can be viewed via the below URL;

2. Upon completion of remediation apply StopShip/Purge sticker from
Bus Bar Kit (if present) to left side of the chassis near the front
    as shown in pictures in step 2) above.
