Solution Type FAB (standard) Sure Solution 1000078.1 : System door interferes with Tape Drive operation.
PreviouslyPublishedAs 200094 Product Sun Fire E2900 Server Sun Fire V1280 Server Netra 1280 Server Date of Resolved Release 01-MAY-2006 Part
Impact The original issue was alignment of E2900/V1280/Netra 1280 door eject button (on Right Hand door) with (non-RoHS) Dat72 option. The tape could not be ejected properly, or could be ejected accidentally. When the RoHS DAT72 option was released, there then became some misalignment between LED holes in doors and the LEDs of the DAT72 drive, rendering the LED's unreadable, and the tape could still not be ejected properly. Contributing Factors Netra 1280, Sun Fire E2900 and Sun Fire V1280 when the DAT72 tape drive is present and a Non-RoHS right hand door is closed. Symptoms Multiple messages, similar to the following, may be observed when this issue results in the tape drive attempting to eject a tape when no tape is present. 02/14/07 11:30:50 str8-a SunVTS6.3ps1: VTSID 6002 tapetest.ERROR tape0: "Cannot open /dev/rmt/0l: I/O error." Probable_Cause(s): <No tape media in drive.> Recommended_Action(s): <Load tape media and retry test.> (run_on_error message 1)
Root Cause The right hand doors listed under Affected Parts section above, and the DAT72 tape drive were not properly aligned / positioned resulting in this issue. The new right hand door has the LED holes and eject button removed to eliminate the alignment issue. These changes were cut into Manufacturing in May of 2006 via ECO# WO_29351. Resolution Replacement Time Estimate: 30 minutes Hot Swappable: Yes Upon failure or customer request replace Right Door and Hinge as follows: Sun Fire V1280 and Netra 1280
Sun Fire E2900

Probable_Cause(s): mended_Action(s): Root Cause [This is ultimate cause of the issue and can be provided in engineering/technical terms.] The right hand doors listed under parts effected and the DAT72 tape drive were not properly aligned / positioned resulting in the issue. [Explain how and when the issue was resolved by manufacturing, engineering or by the vendor.] New Right hand door provides proper alignment between the LED and holes in the door as well as the eject button. These changes were cut in in May of 2006 Corrective Action: Supported Workaround (if available) N/A Final Resolution [Provide recommended action for Sun Field personnel to follow in order to implement this fix in the field.] Replace right hand door as follows: V1280/Netra 1280 560-2848 / Right Door & Hinge Kit, RoHS:Y E2900 540-7019 / Right Door and Hinge, RoHS:Y [A detailed step-by-step procedure for implementing the fix, or high level instructions together with pointers to specific documentation pages.] [List all relevant product manuals, documentation and URL's which will help to implement the Corrective Action.] Identification of Affected Parts (how to): [State whether the affected components require visual inspection.] Yes, as indicated below (and when DDS-4 or DAT72 is present) [Explain how the field would identify the "bad" or affected parts from the "good" or fixed parts.] The door with the issue has features for an eject button and LED holes, the new door does not have these features. [Give precise commands, syntax, and sample output.] N/A - There are no commands. This is a physical replacement only. [State which Explorer files/directories might also be utilized for determining affected parts/product.] N/A Hardware Remediation and Material Availability Details: (For Hardware FABs only) [List estimated dates seedstock material will be available in each Timezone.
