Impact

Sun Fire T2000 servers do not have a full implementation of the Solaris predictive self-healing (PSH) feature.  The current implementation provides the server with the ability to detect CPU faults, but not the ability to diagnose and handle all CPU faults.  Although a fault message is currently displayed on the console or in the /var/adm/messages file, the issue has to be diagnosed manually by a Sun Services engineer.

Contributing Factors

This issue affects any Sun Fire T2000 Server without patches 119578-16 and 118822-23 for Solaris 10.  Check for installation of these patches on Sun Fire T2000 systems as follows:

Use the showrev command to check for patch levels.  For example:

   # showrev -p | grep "Patch: 118822"

If you see patch information for the queried patch, and the dash extension (last two digits) matches or exceeds the required version, your system has the proper patch already installed and no further action is required.

Symptoms

Pages 12-13 of the Sun Fire T2000 Server Product Notes (819-2544-13) show examples of error messages displayed before the resolution patches are applied.  After the patches are installed, normal FMA error messages will be generated when a CPU issue is detected.

Root Cause

Full automated diagnosis for CPU faults was not available at the Revenue Release of the Sun Fire T2000.  This capability is now available through patches for Solaris 10.  On Sun Fire T2000 systems where the patches are not installed, either install the patches or recommend that the customer installs them as soon as possible.

Resolution

Install patches 119578-16 (or later) and 118822-23 (or later).

Follow the installation instructions provided in the patch README files.

Internal Comments

These patches will improve the diagnosis of CPU errors on the Sun Fire T2000, resulting in improved diagnosis and improved availability for customers. Customers are encouraged to install the patches as soon as possible.
