Solution Type FAB (standard) Sure Solution 1000365.1 : Sun StorEdge 9985 (NSC55) - False Detection of Service Processor (SVP) FAN Failure.
PreviouslyPublishedAs 200487 Product Sun StorageTek 9985 System Impact One of the two types of failures listed below may occur on the Service Processor (SVP): 1) Both a false FAN failure and a Windows failure may occur in the SVP at the same time. Approximately 15 minutes later, the SVP will re-boot itself automatically. During the SVP re-boot, the administrator will be unable to use the Storage Navigator for about 3 minutes. The following SIMS will be generated: FAN failure: SIMRC=bfe401 (SIM level: moderate) Windows failure (COM port open failure): SIMRC=75ff00 (SIM level: moderate) 2) A false FAN failure is detected in the SVP, a SIMRC=bfe401 (SIM level: moderate) and possibly an SSB log (333e) and is recorded either once or every 10 seconds. To determine if a real SVP FAN failure has occurred, you must complete any bfe401 SIMs, then reboot the SVP and see if another bfe401 SIM occurs after 10 minutes. If so then it is real and the SVP will need to be replaced. Root Cause False detection of SVP FAN Failure due to an improper driver (firmware) control for the RAS. Conditions of occurrence: SVP WDM driver: V1.0 Note: The procedure to check the driver revision is described in the FCB posted at http://se9990.eng/HECN/510-HW/f515h002.pdf Workaround To determine if a real Service Processor (SVP) FAN failure has occurred, you must complete any bfe401 SIMs, then reboot the SVP and see if another bfe401 SIM occurs after approximately 10 minutes. If so then it is real and the SVP will need to be replaced. Examine the failure type, and take the following action: Condition A:
Condition B:
Resolution Install fixed driver revision - SVP WDM driver Rev. V1.3 Refer to the instructions in ECN DKC515I-H002 and FCB DKC515I-H002
