Impact StorEdge 6320 hard disk drives (ST3146807FC) utilizing disk firmware revision 0407 contains a PFA (Preventive Failure Analysis) fix for spindle motor issues. By not listing the ST3146807FC drive as having to be upgraded, there are increased chances of having multi-drive failures and data loss. Contributing Factors 1) Verify the MIRE release of the StorEdge 6320 SP: A) If an extractor is available, run the following command: # egrep 'Version 1.2.4|Version 1.2.5|Version 1.3' <extractor_path>/Rack/etc_release B) Or directly from the SP, run the following command: [sp0]# egrep 'Version 1.2.4|Version 1.2.5|Version 1.3' /etc/release Version 1.2.4 C) Any output will confirm the SP is running a MIRE release beyond 1.2.3. If Version 1.3.1 is also listed, the fix has been applied. Verify the drive firmware version below and upgrade as needed. 2) Verify the firmware version of drives: A) Login to the SP: http://<SP_ip_address>:7654 B) Select Manage -> Service -> Inventory Maintenance C) Selecting the individual arrays, verify the firmware revision for all ST3146807FC drives is 0407 Symptoms
Root Cause The interaction between PatchPro and the disk firmware patch (114709-05) is broken. Workaround The longterm solution is to upgrade to MIRE 1.3.1. However some customers may not wish to wait given the exposure of staying at the 0207 or 0307 ST3146807FC drive firmware. For these customers please escalate to PTS to receive an ISO image of MIRE release 1.3 that contains the fix. This image can be used to create a CD from which the upgrade then can be successfully completed. Once the new Patch CD has been created, follow the upgrade procedures in the MIRE 1.3 Release Notes (pgs 6-8). Be sure to select CD-ROM under Revision Setup in step 5. If this problem is discovered after an attempt to upgrade to MIRE 1.3, you will be able to apply the fix without a further outage. As the SE6020 Array Firwmare will be 3.2.2 and it will be possible to upgrade the disk firmware while it is in use (see MIRE 1.3 Release Notes pg 2). In the Inventory List, the effected drive (ST3146807FC) will be listed as ST314680FSUN146G due a space limitation in the Label Name. Resolution Patch 114709-07 has the necessary fixes that allow PatchPro to install the ST3146807FC drive firmware during a MIRE upgrade. This patch is scheduled to be included in the next MIRE release (1.3.1) which is due to be released at the start of Calendar Year 2006. Previously Published As 102029 Internal Comments None.
