CURRENT HDD REQUIREMENT - Parity groups consist of either HGST or Seagate drives but never an intermix.

LATEST HDD REQUIREMENTS - In order to improve the supply of our disk drive inventory, Sun and HDS will be supporting parity groups with mixture of both HGST (Hitachi Global Storage Technologies) and Seagate HDDs on the TagmaStore SE9990/SE9985.  Starting in March,2006 HDS will start shipping Seagate 10KRPM drives as the second source HDD for the existing 10KRPM HGST 146GB & 300GB drives. Later 15KRPM mixtures will be available (TBD).

LIMITATIONS:

DKCMAIN less than 50-04-40-00/00 does not support the multi-vendor intermix.

NEW MULTI-VENDOR STORAGE:

• The new second sourced HDDs are the same capacity and speed as that of the current drives.
• HGST will provide new HDDs that are equivalent to HDDs used in existing Seagate parity groups.
• Seagate will provide new HDDs that are equivalent to HDDs used in existing HGST parity groups.
• New Product codes will be created ? When you order this product code you will receive an intermix.
• Minimum micro-program versions must be installed to allow this intermix.
  A. 10KRPM HDDs require 50-04-40-00/00 or higher
  B. Second source Seagate DKS2D-J 10KRPM drives must be at DKU Rev 00-4E-05 or higher.
• Global sparing rules will work with either manufacturers drives when running minimum code version.  Please refer to RAID500 Maintenance Manual page INST01-330 for more details on global sparing.
• Spares inventory will contain both drives. When the need arises to replace an HDD, please order the same drive type that you are replacing. If the machine is running the pre-requisite microcode versions then technically either drive may be ordered.

DKU : New Seagate DKS2D-J 10KRPM DKU code 00-4E-05 or higher

• 15KRPM HDDs - Second source release schedule has not been determined.
