Solution Type FAB (standard) Sure Solution 1000865.1 : Devices may become unavailable when attempting USP Non-Stop micro-program exchange on SE9985 or SE9990 systems
PreviouslyPublishedAs 201146 Product Sun StorageTek 9990 System Sun StorageTek 9985 System Impact Non-Stop microcode exchanges can not be performed on Fibre Channel ports with the following microcode combinations when connected to (AIX/MSCS/Tru64/SUN (with HA software)) hosts issuing the 'reserve' command: The DKCMAIN micro-program version before exchange:
The DKCMAIN micro-program version after exchange:
Symptoms
Root Cause Microprogram deficiency in handling HA Software 'reserve' commands during Non-Stop microprogram exchange (Microcode Upgrades in ranges outlined in "Description Section" above.) When the 'reserve' command, which was received during an I/O takeover in the Non-Stop micro-program exchange, is executed, invalid reserve information will be set. This may result in devices becoming inaccessible. Workaround
Resolution The modified DKCMAIN micro-program versions are as follows:
If these versions are not installed when the Non-Stop SCSI micro-program exchange is started, this issue may occur (Refer then to "Corrective Action"). After upgrading to these versions, then subsequent upgrades to higher level Microcode can be performed using the Non-Stop method without issue. To resolve this issue, perform the following operations in order.
Previously Published As 102200 Internal Comments If the upgrade satisfies the conditions listed above, then shut down the single-path server first, and then, exchange the micro-program in the Alternate SCSI path mode. Note: "Alternate SCSI path mode" method and procedures are documented in SE9990 and SE9985 Maintenance Manuals, Sections MICRO-FC04-10. Related Information
