Part

  • Part Description: CD ASSY,6920 SYS MIGRATION FOR V100,3.0.0

Impact

SE6920 version 3.0 software provides numerous benefits, as well as bug fixes, for the Sun StorEdge 6920 System. Migrating customer systems to version 3.0 will provide enhanced features which should result in improved customer satisfaction.  This FIN gives important information about performing the software upgrade.

Sun is offering customers a free service call to perform the upgrade.  In addition, version 3.0 supports a new enhanced Service Processor (SP).  Upgrading the SP will significantly improve the performance of the management GUI and provide enhanced ability to manage the SE6920.

The SE6920 will continue to operate properly and fully without upgrading the SP, however, taking advantage of this improved SP at the same time the customer upgrades to version 3.0 will provide a much improved user experience.

To take advantage of the upgraded SP, customers will have to order the following components:

   Base Sun Fire V210 server with 512MB of RAM & 73GB 10K-rpm HDD
   N31-XMB1B2512HA =    $1694.02       V210-nearest version
X7602A          =    $107.51        Extra 512MB of RAM
X7410A          =    $116.54        DVD Drive

Note: An additional Service Cost will be incurred for installation of these FRUs.

Resolution
  1. Advise customers of the benefits of upgrading Sun StorEdge 6920 System software from version 2.x to version 3.0.
  2. Perform the software upgrade (as detailed below) when requested by a customer.
  3. If the customer requests an upgraded SP, order and install the parts detailed above.  Parts and labor are charged to the customer.

Migration Scheduling:

The customer should contact their local Sun Service center to open a Radiance case and schedule their free service-only software upgrade.  The process is the same as scheduling an install.

Obtaining the Image or CD:

The migration image and CD are available within Sun the same way as the existing 6320/6920 restore CD and image.

The CD can be ordered using ServiceDesk or from your internal Software Libraries.  The migration image is available for download on EDIST or the SPE web site.

SPE is targeted to partners and Sun personnel who need to be able to access Sun partner information and tools in its entirety from an external location. The SPE provides visibility to content and tools that benefit Sun partners.

  • https://spe.sun.com

Edist is a pre-FCS distribution server.  It provides early access to software and documentation primarily for the field personnel.

  • http://edist.central/

Prerequisites/Preparation:

The detailed technical migration process is available and maintained on the edist and SPE websites.

The migration process is disruptive (cannot be done online) so you will need to schedule 2-3 hours with the customer.  The customer's data is preserved but they will lose access to it during the migration process.  For SSRR monitored accounts, follow the process to disable SSRR

The customer may also want to activate the data services. To activate the data services customers must purchase an RTU license for the terabyte level they require for each product they plan to use.  Details are covered in the System Migration Guide.

For customers that have previously purchased data services(snapshot or pool manager), details are covered in the System Migration Guide.

Future upgrades to the data services applications and phone support require purchase of a software support contract.

Note: Only 6920s with Firmware 2.0.4 or later can be upgraded to 6920 Unity 3.0.0 level Firmware.
