Impact There is no operational impact to the system if this issue occurs. This asset is being released as Preliminary and will be updated to resolved once material becomes available. Contributing Factors Sun Fire V890 servers shipped during the month of August 2006 may be affected. The supplier has since adopted a screen to ensure no further contaminated lubricant is used. Symptoms It has been reported that occasionally, the rack mount kit handle on the Sun Fire V890 server has been broken by the customer. A new FRU is being released that will allow the rack mount handle to be replaced onsite avoiding replacement of the complete rack mount kit. Root Cause Root Cause was due to a manufacturing production defect, suspect bad batch of lubricant used during assembly of the rack-kit, resulting in minor cracking of the plastic molding near the handle fixing points. Maximum possible exposure in shipped systems is approximately 80. All inventories have been screened, and additional ongoing screening has been implemented in manufacturing. Workaround
Resolution Upon Failure only, replace broken handle with new handle FRU, Sun Part Number 330-3200-01 (or above). Modification History Date: 21-NOV-2007
