Sun VTL Plus Build1323 Patch06 contains 47 fixes including support for the new functions replication and high availability with tape caching.  Of the 47 fixes 8 are related to data availability and 2 are related to data integrity.  For planning purposes this maintenance package should schedule a 3 hour outage installing on a VTL model 1140 or 2540 and 6 hours for a VTL model 3540.  The VTL 3540 can be performed without a scheduled outage but will require each node to be brought down to apply the maintenance package.

As most of the sales and services personnel worldwide should know, Sun has released VTL Plus in phases, based on the testing of various key feature over time.  As a result, there are VTL Plus installations in place with various code release levels.  Sun highly recommends that all of the VTL Plus units shipped to date be upgraded to the current 1323 software build and patch06, along with the current level of Solaris, so that all VTL Plus installations can benefit from the latest Sun testing and fixes.

Not only are a variety of bug fixes in the current build, but 1323 also delivers important enhancements such as remote replication, tape caching with high availability (tape caching for 3540), and performance enhancements. In addition, by moving VTL Plus to a known, current code level, Sun will deliver a more stable, more supportable VTL - obviously more in line with your customer's satisfaction with the solution.

Build1323 Patch06 addresses a number of field fixes and implements the remaining GA level product functions which are not present in the current VTL software solution.  Included is Solaris 10 Update 3 and patch cluster 20070213.

EC 131401 releases 1323 patch 06 to the factory.  EC 131409 releases field bill for the field.  See Field Bill Order Form on CRC once EC is released.

Proactively contact customers under contract and strongly recommend proactive implementation of this Field Action Bulletin.

Identification of Affected Parts (how to):

All customers with Sun VTL Plus Build1321 or lower are affected.

This can be determined by using the VTL Console, from the initial menu and selecting the Version Info tab.  This will denote the Build and Patch level installed.  Any version lower than update-vtl132306solaris10 requires this maintenance.
