  • Xoption Description: Sun StorEdge 9990 Array

Impact

Due to the enhanced security measures of Windows XP SP2, the following issues may be observed with any SE9990 subsystem, that has had Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) applied.

  1. When opening the SVP Maintenance window after rebooting the SVP in a subsystem which has a failed part, an SVP-DKC connection error occurs.
  2. If a CSW is replaced, an SVP-DKC connection error occurs in some cases.

Symptoms

Resolution

Possible temporary workarounds to the issues as outlined above include:

For issue #1. Wait for approximately 30 minutes with the SVP screen in Modify mode, and then reopen the Maintenance window. Dependant on the failed part, it may become possible to open the Maintenance window.

If issue #2 is encountered, the only known recovery option is to restore the SVP OS to Windows XP SP1a.

SOLUTION:

1) Until further notice, do NOT install Service Pack 2 on the SE9990 SVP.

2) Modified Microcode to address this problem will be released in the future (the tentative date for the release of fixed Microcode is early Autumn 2005).

For details of how to uninstall Windows XP SP2 and restore the SVP OS to Windows XP SP1a, see Appendix A of HDS Alert USP_039198 for details.

If it is not possible to uninstall Windows XP SP2 for some reason, the SVP OS image may have to reinstalled using the SE9990 SVP OS Recovery procedure, as outlined in the R500 MMN page TRBL03-171.

"How To" doc 1007924.1 also provides additional details of the SE9990 SVP OS recovery process.
