Solution Type FAB (standard) Sure Solution 1020830.1 : Netra ct900 running SunVTS should modify fan speed.
PreviouslyPublishedAs 265650 Bug Id <SUNBUG: 6852129> Product Sun Netra CT 900 Server Date of Resolved Release 12-Aug-2009 ct900 can overheat if many blades running SunVTS (see details below). ImpactThe Netra ct900 can overheat if many internal cp3260 blades run SunVTS.Contributing FactorsNetra ct900 with cp3260 blades running SunVTS.SymptomsIf a Netra ct900 with cp3260 blades runs SunVTS for an extended period of time, it could overheat due to higher than normal resource utilization. This issue is aggravated if the system is located at high altitudes (above 3000 feet or 915 meters), and is aggravated on a fully loaded chassis and blades with maximum memory.Root CauseSunVTS places a higher than normal resource load on the system, which can cause blades to have a higher than normal temperature. This can cause cp3260s to operate above their specified temperature limit.Corrective ActionWorkaround:See Resolution section below. Resolution: Modify the default fan settings ONLY while running SunVTS by commenting out the following line if ShMM file /etc/shelfman.conf with a # in collumn 1 and then reboot the ShMM: CARRIER_OPTIONS = SUNCT900 This setting is to be changed back after SunVTS completes and the ShMM rebooted.
