Applies to:Sun Storage 7410 Unified Storage System - Version: Not Applicable to Not Applicable - Release: NA to NASun Storage 7310 Unified Storage System - Version: Not Applicable to Not Applicable [Release: NA to NA] Information in this document applies to any platform. __________ Affected Parts: 375-3487-04 (or below) - PCI Express 8-Port Host Adapter, RoHS:Y SymptomsVery old versions of the appliance software may exhibit an appliance hang, while more recent software versions automatically restart the appliance due to a panic with IOC fault codes in the range 0x7810-0x782F. The current (and most recent) software would experience an I/O pause less than a minute in duration. On more recent versions of the appliance software the system will report fault code “MPT-8000-0S, An I/O path lockup condition was detected that impacted connectivity to attached storage. This condition does not affect data integrity, but required a reset of the HBA to clear the condition”. Impact Temporary interruption to data availability. ChangesContributing FactorsOnly Sun Storage 7310 and 7410 Unified Storage Systems shipped prior to mid-December 2009 and with the B3 version of the Pandora card are affected, larger configurations performing some work loads increase the chance of triggering the issue. The issue is rare, but if encountered the system is more likely to encounter it again. Even though the Pandora card is used in other products, the issue this FCO is intending to remediate has only been demonstrated in the Sun Storage 7310 and 7410 (Amber Road). As such, other products are not included in this FCO. CauseRoot CauseThe root cause is contributed to a design defect in an ASIC from a 3rd party supplier on the Pandora B3 card (part number 375-3487-04 or below). Manufacturing started shipping corrected systems with the C0 (375-3487-05) cards on Dec 12, 2009. X-Options continue to ship with the B3 cards and expected change is due mid June of 2010. CRU stock of the B3 cards in the RSLs has been purged and only C0 cards are available as spare parts (Reference GSAP# 5050.B for more details). SolutionTarget Completion Date: Not ApplicableImplementation: Reactive Workaround No workaround available - see Resolution section below. Resolution Upon failure only replace all B3 cards P/N 375-3487-04 (or earlier) with C0 cards P/N 375-3487-05 (or later) in the affected system. This new version (version C0) should not be mixed with B3 version cards in the same system, and must be installed with the Sun Storage 7000 Software Update 2010.Q1.0.0, at a minimum. The software must be updated prior to installing the C0 cards. This new version (version C0) should not be mixed with B3 version cards in the same system, and must be installed with the Sun Storage 7000 Software Update: - Recommended 2010.Q3.1.0 - Minimum 2010.Q1.0.0 Please note that the software must be updated prior to installing the C0 cards. For installing Sun Storage 7000 Software Update 2010.Q3.1.0 Release notes can be found via the below URL; http://wikis.sun.com/display/FishWorks/ak-2010.08.17.1.0+Release+Notes The release itself is linked from the Software Updates page below; http://wikis.sun.com/display/FishWorks/Software+Updates Note: The Proactive remediation of this FCO was initially handled by TSC where SRs were dispatched to the field on an as needed basis. This FCO has been changed to a Reactive remediation and spares have been moved from Manufacturing into Services as of December 7, 2011. Identification of Affected Parts (how to): No visual inspection is required. To check system configuration to verify the version of installed SAS HBAs: 1. Do one of the following: - From the browser user interface, go to Maintenance > Hardware > Slot information. - From the command-line interface, go to maintenance hardware, select chassis-000, and issue the ls or show command. 2. Look for these values: - C0 HBA: Model Dual 4x3Gb External SAS HBA (Rev C0) - B3 HBA: Dual 4x3Gb External SAS HBA (Rev B3) Hardware Remediation and Material Availability Details: Important! All material should be ordered per standard Service Logistics process. This part is a CRU, therefore an on-site service call should not be required. Good spares may not be available in all Regions. Check with your Logistics Management team to determine availability of spares in your area. At re-publication time (December 7, 2010) all Regions, with the exception of EMEA, were materially ready to support reactive remediation activities.
