SUNBUG: 7017185

Affected Parts:

542-0194 - Disk Shelf 24x3.5" SAS-2 Interface Module (SIM)

Symptoms

The SIM may only have one path to devices attached to it and the White "Locate" LED illuminates. Also the Service LED right above it turns to a constant and solid Amber color. On the front of the JBOD, the "Serve LED" on the left hand side is on solid and the "Rear SIM" LED illuminates with a solid light.

Impact

SIM heartbeat timer expires. RW2 will show as degraded, SIM will go offline due to heartbeat timeout.

Changes

After checking the health of any of the above listed systems (ensuring that all devices in a DiskShelf unit, including the SIMs, have dual paths to all) one of the SIMs may only have one path to devices attached to it and the White "Locate" LED is illuminated. Also the Service LED right above it turns to a constant Amber color. On the front of the JBOD, the "Service LED" on the left hand side is on solid and the "Rear SIM" LED illuminates with a solid light.

Cause

The Heartbeat timer between the two SIMs expires.

The formal fix will be the distribution of a new Diskshelf SIM FW.

Solution

Workaround

Reseating of the SIM board that has the White "Locate" LED lit will work around this issue.

Resolution

Please perform the following steps to alleviate this situation:

1) Pull the failed SIM from the chassis
2) Wait two minutes
3) Plug the SIM back into the chassis
4) Wait for it to come back online (Green "Ready" LED will light)

Repeat these steps for all other SIMs that may have this fault signature in other JBODs.
