In the event of a failure in the single operational path, the Logzilla will be offline/unreachable.Example: 7000 Appliance BUI Logzilla Status Example Maintenance >> Hardware >> Disk Shelves >> Component Details Label HDD 23 FMRI hc:///ses-enclosure=0/bay=23/disk=0 Manufacturer STEC Model ZeusIOPs Serial STM00010F746 Revision 9001 Interface SAS Size 17G Type Log Online paths 1 7000 Appliance CLI Logzilla Status Example ar7320:> maintenance hardware select chassis-001 select disk select disk-023 list Properties: label = HDD 23 present = true faulted = false manufacturer = STEC model = ZeusIOPs serial = STM00010F746 revision = 9001 size = 17G type = Log device = c0t5000A7203001E337d0 pathcount = 1 interface = SAS locate = false Impact When only a single path is enabled in a dual port SAS Logzilla device, a failure for any reason anywhere in fabric for the single functional path results in a loss of access to the Logzilla because the secondary access path is off line due to this problem. ChangesContributing FactorsThe SSD must be located in slot 23 only of the JBOD Diskshelf, must have firmware prior to 9002 (i.e. 9001), OR firmware of 9002 or greater installed and the device not have been power cycled/reseated since the firmware upgrade. CauseRoot CauseA specific problem related to the highest number slot in the JBOD Diskshelf exists in the Logzilla 9001 firmware which can lead to a disabled port in the Logzilla SSD. When firmware is upgraded the disabled port may still exist because a secondary problem is that the device must be power cycled/reseated in order for the specific change to address the disabled port to take affect. SolutionWorkaroundThere are two processes to the workaround. 1- Upgrade the firmware to 9002 or later (9002 was released in Q3.2.0 - aka 2010.08.17.2.0) 2- Power cycle the Logzilla device by reseating it after the firmware upgrade. There are no workarounds absent from updating the firmware. Resolution Note: The following should only be performed by trained Oracle service personnel. Please perform the following steps to alleviate this situation: 1) Identify the Slot 23 SSD in the Diskshelf JBOD. 2) Update the SSD to FW version 9002 or later if needed. 3) Remove the SSD from Diskshelf Slot 23 and wait 30 seconds. 4) Insert the SSD into Diskshelf Slot 23. 5) Wait for it to come back online (Green “Ready” LED will light) 6) Verify the Slot 23 SSD has two paths. Example of successful upgrade: 7000 Appliance BUI Logzilla Status Example Maintenance >> Hardware >> Disk Shelves >> Component Details Label HDD 23 FMRI hc:///ses-enclosure=0/bay=23/disk=0 Manufacturer STEC Model ZeusIOPs Serial STM00010F746 Revision 9002 Interface SAS Size 17G Type Log Online paths 2 7000 Appliance CLI Logzilla Status Example ar7320:> maintenance hardware select chassis-001 select disk select disk-023 list Properties: label = HDD 23 present = true faulted = false serial = STM00010F746 revision = 9002 size = 17G type = Log device = c0t5000A7203001E337d0 pathcount = 2 interface = SAS locate = false Repeat these steps for all other Logzilla SSDs in Slot 23 running FW 9002 or later for all of the JBODs that have this failing signature. Identification of Affected Parts (how to): Check the health of a system and ensure that all devices in a DiskShelf unit, including the SSDs, have dual paths.
