Symptoms
After upgrading OBP (Open Boot Prom) on either a Sun Ultra[TM] 60/80 workstation, or Sun
Enterprise[TM] 220R/420R Server, some EEPROM values are left blank, or contain
invalid information:
  • banner-name contains no or invalid information;
    ("prtdiag" also reports wrong system type)
  • enclosure-type contains no or invalid information;
  • energystar-enabled? contains invalid information.

Resolution
To fix these values, login as "root" (UID 0) and use the command "eeprom" to
enter new information, or to correct invalid entries.
Sun Ultra[TM] 60 workstation:

 - eeprom banner-name="Sun Ultra 60 UPA/PCI"
- eeprom enclosure-type="540-3251-03"
- eeprom energystar-enabled?="true"

Sun Enterprise[TM] 220R Server:

 - eeprom banner-name="Sun Enterprise 220R"
- eeprom enclosure-type="540-4284"
- eeprom energystar-enable?=false"

Sun Ultra[TM] 80 workstation:

 - eeprom banner-name="Sun Ultra 80 UPA/PCI"
- eeprom enclosure-type="540-3871-05"
- eeprom energystar-enabled?="true"

Sun Enterprise[TM] 420R Server:

 - eeprom banner-name="Sun Enterprise 420R"
- eeprom enclosure-type="540-4115"
- eeprom energystar-enabled?=false"

In all cases, a reboot(init 6) of the machine is needed to activate
the new settings.

For internal Sun use only.

Be aware that the "uname" command is looking at different OBP values.

Uname -i looks at the mfg-name, which cannot be modified manually.

To also fix mfg-name 4 different OBP patches should be created.

Given the age of the product, do not expect that to ever be fixed.

Uname will still report U60/U80 for E220R/E420R.

U60, U60, E220R, E420R, OBP, EEPROM, banner-name, enclosure-type, energystar-enabled
