Solution Type Problem Resolution Sure Solution 1008000.1 : Sun StorEdge [TM] 5210 Replaced disk still shows as failed.
PreviouslyPublishedAs 211035 Symptoms On the Sun StorEdge [TM] 5210 array, a replacement disk inserted for a failed disk still shows as failed in the GUI. Resolution When a failed disk drive in the array is replaced, the new drive stays in the failed state. This can lead to the belief that the new drive is faulty. The only indication of what needs to be done is on page 38 of the: Sun StorEdge[TM] 5210 NAS Appliance Administration Guide (819-5376) Which states this: When you replace the faulty drive, you must manually assign the new drive as the hot-spare. And there is no indication given as to what the state of the replacement drive should be at the time of the assignment as the new hot spare drive. This assignment of the replaced drive as the hot spare is done while the drive is in the failed state. As long as the "Add HS" button in the middle section of the RAID/ Manage RAID is not grayed out, clicking on the "Add HS" button will allow that drive to be brought in as the new hot spare drive. There is no reason or need for the original hot spare drive to be put back as the hot spare drive. Relief/Workaround None.
