Solution Type Problem Resolution Sure Solution 1008863.1 : Prtdiag shows limited information or no information
PreviouslyPublishedAs 212205 Symptoms Prtdiag does not include all machine hardware configuration and environmental data. Specifically, output from the prtdiag command may show only the following information: # /usr/platform/sun4u/sbin/prtdiag -v
System Configuration: Sun Microsystems sun4u (2 X UltraSPARC-III)
System clock frequency: 150 MHz
Memory size: 1024 Megabytes

(nothing after this)
Or, running prtdiag results in the following error: # /usr/platform/sun4u/sbin/prtdiag -v picl_initialize failed: Daemon not responding Resolution To resolve this issue, first verify that the required picld packages are installed on the system: # pkginfo -l | grep picl PKGINST: SUNWpiclr PKGINST: SUNWpiclu DESC: PICL Daemon, Libraries, prtpicl client and plug-in modules PKGINST: SUNWpiclx If the packages are not installed, then install the packages from the Solaris media. It is important to use the picld packages that came with your version of Solaris[TM] Operating System. To find out what version you have type: # more /etc/release If the SUNWpiclr, SUNWpiclu, and SUNWpiclx packages are installed, stop and then restart the picld daemon to try and resolve the problem. For Solaris 7, 8 & 9: # /etc/init.d/picld stop # /etc/init.d/picld start Note: Solaris[TM] 10 uses different commands to stop and start the picld daemon. To disable and offline (stop) picld under Solaris 10:
# /usr/sbin/svcadm disable svc:/system/picl
Verify picld not active:
# ps -ef |grep picld
root 21144 20937 0 17:56:43 pts/1 0:00 grep picld
To enable picld under Solaris 10:
# /usr/sbin/svcadm enable svc:/system/picl
To restart picld under Solaris 10:
# /usr/sbin/svcadm restart svc:/system/picl
Verify picld active:
# ps -ef |grep picld
root 21294 1 1 18:01:25 0:01 /usr/lib/picl/picld
root 21315 20937 0 18:01:35 pts/1 0:00 grep picld
If none of these solutions resolve the problem, remove the picld packages and re-install them using pkgrm and pkgadd. Once resolved, the prtdiag output should now look similar to the following: # /usr/platform/sun4u/sbin/prtdiag -v System Configuration: Sun Microsystems sun4u (2 X UltraSPARC-III) System clock frequency: 150 MHZ Memory size: 1GB ==================================== CPUs ==================================== E$ CPU CPU Temperature CPU Freq Size Impl.
