Solution Type Problem Resolution Sure Solution 1010576.1 : Unable to save ALOM password information to SCC on Sun Fire[TM] V210/V240 systems
PreviouslyPublishedAs 214551 Symptoms Users of the Sun Fire V210 and V240 systems may encounter difficulty in utilizing the ALOM commands without repeatedly being prompted to enter an admin account password. The user will be presented with the following message upon entering various ALOM commands: *****NOTICE***** In the following examples where "(ALOM command)" is presented in parenthesis it is intended to represent any one of several ALOM commands whose functionality relies upon access to the System Configuration Card (SCC) or System Configuration Card Reader (SCCR). **************** sc>(ALOM command) Warning: the (ALOM command) command is being ignored because the password for admin is not set. If the user then enters a password the system will appear to accept the password: Setting password for admin. New password: ******** Re-enter new password: ******** When the user attempts to issue further ALOM commands the system will continue to prompt them to enter an admin password: sc>(ALOM command) Warning: the (ALOM command) command is being ignored because the password for admin is not set. It is possible that the SCCR ribbon cable connection on the system board may become unseated during shipping. Depending on how severe the unseated cable condition is, ALOM command behavior may vary. A complete disconnect of the cable will result in being prompted to enter a password for every ALOM command that relies on communication with the SC card. Another indication that a system may be affected with this condition is that the ALOM "usershow" command will indicate blank permissions for the admin account rather than the usual c u a r permissions. Also check the SCSI ribbon cable from the lower interface board to the motherboard as this cable carries i2c also. Resolution The condition described above is indicative of any break in connectivity between the system board and either the system configuration card reader (SCCR) or the system configuration card itself (SCC). Problem Resolution < Document: 1004834.1 > (Defective Sun[TM] Fire V210/V240 front bezel causing ALOM password not to be accepted, as well as other failures) should also be referenced for a similar error signature before preceding to troubleshoot a problem with the ALOM password not being accepted. This problem resolution describes a problem caused by a defective front bezel assembly. A possible solution to this condition is to first verify that the system configuration card is properly seated in the card reader and second to verify that all pertinent internal cables are seated correctly. When connectivity is restored between the system board and the SCCR/SCC ALOM command functionality will return to normal.
