Solution Type Problem Resolution Sure Solution 1010671.1 : Sun Fire[TM] V60x/V65x Servers: BMC Update Error
PreviouslyPublishedAs 214738 Symptoms In some cases the Sun Fire[TM] V60x and V65x Servers were delivered with old firmware. If you try to update the base management controller (BMC) with the current version (BMC v1.19*), you will see the error message, "Platform IDs don't match in the Bootblock." * You can check for a later version here: http://www.sun.com/servers/entry/v60x/downloads.html
Resolution If you see the error message listed in the Problem Statement, and if you have BMC v1.13 or earlier, you can use the BMC tool from Intel's website (se7501wv2_bmc113.exe). Follow these steps: 1. Download the file from the URL listed below. Self-extract it (it is a Winzip file, executable in a Windows enviroment). Here is the URL: http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df/detail_desc.asp strState=LIVE&ProductID=904&DwnldID=6208 2. Copy the file to a DOS bootable diskette. 3. Switch off the server for at least 30 seconds, and then open the cover (power removed). 4. Verify (by using the following URL) that Pins 1-2 at the BMC WB EE are shortened (2-3 is the default). (For ease of use, the riser PCI card can be pulled with the blue strap.) Here is the URL: http://www.sun.com/products-n-solutions/hardware/docs/html/817-2023- 11/CH4_Configure.html#pgfId-1034980 5. Switch on the unit and at the "A:>" prompt, and enter "Update.bat." You will see information about the jumper setting. 6. Start the flashing with a keystroke. The flashing takes about 5 to 10 minutes and is finished when the CPU fan goes at its highest speed for a short time. 7. Shut down the unit, remove the power, and shorten the Pins back to 2-3 at the BMC WB EE. 8. Download and install current versions of BIOS, BMC, and FRU/SDR from the following URL: http://www.sun.com/servers/entry/v65x/downloads.html Product Sun Fire V65x Server Sun Fire V60x Server Sun Fire V60x Compute Grid Rack System Internal Comments Voyager entry corresponds to Apollo Escalation #1-2060654. Voyager, always sensitive around numbered lists, refused to publish. Both Dean and I worked on the formatting to get Voyager to accept the article. Unfortunately, we had to get rid of the auto-numbering, so the steps no longer have a hanging indent.
