Symptoms
The Sun Fire[TM] V210 USB keyboard works fine when in multi-user GUI mode but when entering Single User mode it stops working.

The Single User message requesting for you to enter the ROOT password appears, but the keyboard won't accept any input and "Stop A" doesn't work.

 INIT: SINGLE USER MODE

 Type control-d to proceed with normal startup,
(or give root password for system maintenance):   <--won't accept input

Resolution
The OBP firmware setting for input-device may be set to 'ttya' although it has a graphics display. This has been a common problem with some ***NEW*** V210 machines with graphic displays. A good clue is when "Stop A" doesn't function.

This setting will need to be changed.

The correct input-device is 'keyboard' when the output-device is 'screen'.

To check the input-device setting

Multi-user mode

 # eeprom | grep output-device
output-device=screen
# eeprom | grep input-device
input-device=ttya   <-- incorrect.

OBP mode

 ok printenv   (Check the output list for the following)
output-device         screen
input-device          ttya
ok

If input-device is set to 'ttya' use one of the methods below to change to 'keyboard'.

To Change Input-device

Multi-User mode

 # eeprom input-device=keyboard
# /etc/reboot

OBP mode

 ok setenv input-device keyboard
input-device =        keyboard
ok boot

Additional Information
If the Sun machine has an rsc port, check the input-device to see if it's set to rsc-console. You will need to change to 'keyboard' using same methods above.

This problem may also appear with the Sun Fire[TM] V240.
