Symptoms

On Sun Storage 3510 arrays, it was found that Seagate disk firmware upgrades using
Patch ID: 114709-07 are successful, however Fujitsu disks firmware upgrades using
Patch ID: 116815-07 fail with the error:
"mdload: no disk found to match disk model specified".

Following the procedures in the readme files:
---------------------------------------------

14. Type "mload " at the command prompt.

    If only one SE3510 array is connected to the host, it will be
selected automatically; otherwise, select the appropriate array
from the menu. Please note that you should substitute
10.X.33.192 with the IP Address of your System.

15. Download new firmware to all disks at the same time by typing
the following command at the prompt:

       download disk-firmware MAP3147F.1601.fw "MAP3147F SUN146G"

-------------------------------------------------------------------
When trying to use the above, the following error message was generated:

{CHANGE}

Note: The disk drive firmware upgrade was initiated after upgrading the controller
firmware to 4.x.

Cause

{CAUSE}

Root cause of Fujitsu disk firmware upgrade failures is due to a problem with the mload binary file in Patch ID: 116815-07. The mload file is the utility to upgrade the disk drive firmware for the Sun Storage 3510 array.

Solution

While there is no resolution to this problem, the workaround to upgrade Fujitsu disk drive

Relief/Workaround

Use the mload utility from Patch ID: 114709-07  with the
Fujitsu disk firmware file MAP3147FSUN.1701  found in Patch ID: 116815-07.
