reset idisplay board

Resolution

This hang point is that NAS appliance is trying to reset the iDisplay (front LCD module). The LCD panel connects system board by internal USB port and all external USB ports of NAS 5x10 appliance are reserved. So there could be a manifestation of the following causes:

1. It may cause conflict that USB keyboard/mouse is used to connect head USB ports.

2. Hardware problem, including LCD panel module -> cable between LCD module and system board -> system board.

Therefore, the following actions is recommended to narrow and solve the problem:

1. Remove USB keyboard/mouse and use PS/2 keyboard/mouse, then try to reboot head.

2. If the problem repeats, replace LCD panel module and the internal LCD USB cable.

3. If the problem still continues, replace system board.

Relief/Workaround

Because it's hard hang, it's the only way to boot up NAS head to power-cycle the appliance.

Comment: I would like a reasonable explanation when someone reject a document. It's not easy for anyone to create a document.

Any document in sunsolve should be correct, but no one can promise one document must always be absolutely correct, the most important is a document can show me a way and help me near the truth.

The sunsolve document may be wrong, but we can correct it. It's important who begin to create the document.

I always believe the PTS and experts should encourage the document creation because the document can share us the knowledge and reduce case escalation and resolution time.

This document is still ready for tech review.

Thanks

Comment: Hi Krishan,

I don't agree with your idea.

First of all, this case can be repeated and with a typical error info 'reset idisplay board'. Also the root cause of this case is obvious because all actions before motherboard replacement is no useful, after motherboard replacement, the problem was solved. So it's NOT coincident solution for the case.

What I believe is that no similar document in solve can help us find a way to solve the similar problem if we meet the typical error info 'reset idisplay board' and I can create this document to share my learning with someone who may need help from this document.

Thanks

Justin

Comment: There could be other reason for this problem to happen and coincidently mother board replacement had solved the problem. This document may result in unnecessary hardware replacement at Cu's site. Also, as this was non-reproducible problem I dont think it would be appropriate to put the document on sunsolve.

Kind Regards
