PreviouslyPublishedAs 217035 Symptoms Some Sun Fire[TM] 280R, Sun Blade[TM] 1000/2000 and Netra[TM] 20 platforms might be unable to determine the boot device on SCSI and/or FCAL because of missing WWN in default boot alias. As a result the installation fails/stops at initializing the system. Note: On all the SPARC[R] platforms, the default boot-device is set to "disk". This is in fact an alias defined under the OBP alias node to a platform dependent value. This can be identified by running the command from the OS: # prtconf -vp | grep disk Examples: Excalibur (Sun Blade 1000) (Good Example): Excalibur (Bad Example): Resolution 1. Bring your system to the ok prompt, and type the following command:
Note: Probe SCSI might require a soft-reset before it can run correctly. (reset) 2. The system returns SCSI device information. Write down the Port WWN number for the disk that will be defined as a boot device. Example: 2100002037e4317d 3. Execute the devalias disk at the ok prompt by typing the following command:
Note: The device name that the devalias disk command points to is returned by the system. If the Port WWN is included in the device name, your system is not affected by this bug. DO NOT continue the workaround. 4. If the Port WWN is not included in the device name, you must manually set the Port WWN. Type the following command:
5. Now type the following command:
Verify that the Port WWN is now listed in the device name. 6. Ensure that boot-device is set to disk, which will allow the Solaris[TM] 8 Update 7 Operating System to be installed. Type the command:
