Solution Type Problem Resolution Sure Solution 1012545.1 : Fan tray failure prevents power up and error reporting on Sun Fire[TM] V480.
PreviouslyPublishedAs 217275 Symptoms Power on for the V480 fails showing solid amber light on front panel. Both of the power supplies are showing green/blue optimal condition. You are unable to access information through the RSC and POST will not run. Resolution If you should encounter this situation, do the following: (You may need a flash light to perform this procedure.) 1. Turn the key switch to the off position. 2. Remove the plastic cover located at the front of the V480 and beneath the latched door concealing the startup button. This plastic cover hides the cooling fans from view. 3. Position yourself so you may observe the front cooling fans spin up. 4. Turn the key switch to the on position and push the start button. If you observe the fans begin to spin (even less than one revolution) and then stop, the problem may be a failed CPU fan tray, part number 540-4715. Replace this part before swapping any other parts.
