Solution

Resolution
Take the following steps to resolve issue:

Example Error text:

2004-08-25T23:59:25.235 1,4,0,1,0 root default internal 0 error 3955 Error from device Code: 502 - Robot can not find target Data=auditerror><resultCode>5416: Failed target calibration for CSR: 12,2,1, CMO Status=3, result code=5416||>502falsefalse<address>1,4,12,2,1

The library log must be checked for the target errors listed above after a door open. A power-cycle of the HandBot followed by a physical audit from SLC for that rail will also cause the robot to re-target on each of the arrays. All target addresses with errors should be fixed per the process below.

Short Term Solution:

Wipe the surface of the target with a Kimwipe lint free cloth. The target surface should be rubbed horizontally seven to ten times with a Kimwipe applying moderate pressure. Only clean 4 targets with each 4 inch by 8 inch Kimwipe before replacing the Kimwipe. Do not leave lint or debris on the surface of the target. The Kimwipe has enough surface roughness to burnish the surface and change the reflectivity of the target area. At this time, we do not believe that there is any contamination on the array surface that must be cleaned off. The change in reflectivity is the key factor. If initial rubbing does not produce the desired result, repeat the process.

Caution: Do not use a wet wipe, alcohol pad, cloth, scotch-brite, or any rough material that will "rough-up" the target surface!! You must use a dry paper wipe.

The Kimwipes listed below have provided the best results in our testing:

Kimwipes EX-L

Delicate task wipers

Dry paper lint guard

Anti-stat polyshield

If the arrays have already been installed, the wiping should be done with the arrays in place. At a new install, it will be more convenient to wipe each array as it is installed. The wiping must be done on all inner and outer arrays as well as the mechanisms (turntables, elevators, end stop calibration arrays) carefully supporting the array on a mechanism. Record all activity in the install problem report.

Long Term Solution:

Long Term solution is to texture the target surface in the array mold tool and to implement a tool cleaning schedule that will include the target area of the tool. A future library code release will add margin to insure array variation will not cause similar issues.

Note: Firmware and target fixture work has been done. 3/15/2011.

New production arrays can cause targeting failures. Target bars are decoded as too wide by the library target algorithm. The Array Target surface is affecting the image of the array target that is seen by the library camera.
