Solution Type Problem Resolution Sure Solution 1017494.1 : Sun Fire[TM] V480 has no console output on power on
PreviouslyPublishedAs 228617 Symptoms Sun Fire[TM] V480 powers on, but there is no display to the monitor or Serial/RSC ports. The amber LED's on the front and rear of the system are lit. Resolution Sun Fire[TM] V480 has no console output on power on: Solution : One possible component that would cause this behavior is a failed DC-DC converter on the I/O Riser Board. The system will appear to be getting power normally and the fans will all spin up, but the system will give no output at all and the general fault (amber) LED's on the front and rear of the system will be illuminated. To check to see if this is being caused by a faulty DC-DC converter, remove the cover over the I/O Riser Board and look for the fault LED's beside the DC-DC converters (located between the converters and the PCI slot connectors). Each DC-DC converter has a single fault LED. If any of the 3 amber LED's are lit the I/O Riser Board (part number 501-5820) must be replaced (the individual DC-DC converters are not Field Replaceable Units).
