Product
Sun StorageTek T3+ Array

Bug Id
<SUNBUG: 6577650>

Date of Workaround Release
21-SEP-2007

Impact

When a T3+ array with firmware 3.2.3.3 (and above) is attached to a Fabric switch and a volume slice is removed using 'volslice remove', the complete loop goes offline and all devices (LUNs) become unavailable.

Contributing Factors

This issue can occur in the following release:

SPARC Platform

  • Sun StorageTek T3+ array Firmware 3.2.3.3 and above

Notes:

  1. No other storage arrays or firmware releases are affected by this issue.
  2. This issue only occurs when the T3+ is attached to a Fabric Switch or similar High-Availability configuration (T3+ direct attach is not affected).

To determine the firmware revision on the T3+ array, log in to the T3+ and run the following command:

    t3m:/:<1>ver
    T3B Release 3.2.6 Mon Feb 5 01:00:35 MST 2007 (129.158.142.117)

Symptoms

After 'volslice remove' is run, errors similar to the following are reported to the attached host:

    with D_ID=620ae4, PWWN=50020f2300 00921a disappeared from fabric

Workaround

To work around this issue, set the 'fc_topology' to 'fabric_p2p' on the array by doing the following (logged in to the array):

    t3m:/:<6>sys fc_topology fabric_p2p
WARNING - Changing topology will disrupt i/o traffic.
