Upgrading internal 73.4GB (MAP3735FC) disk drive firmware ...

1. Impact

Upgrading internal 73.4GB (MAP3735FC) disk drive firmware to version 1401 with the installation of firmware patch 116514-02 may cause the boot disk on a Sun Fire V880 System not to be recognized.

Note: Patch 116514-02 has been WITHDRAWN from SunSolve and is no longer available.


2. Contributing Factors

This issue can occur in the following release:

SPARC Platform

  • Internal Disk Drive MAP3735FC (73.4GB) with firmware version 1401 (as delivered in patch 116514-02) and without patch 116514-04

This issue only affects the Sun Fire V880 with a 6 slot FC Storage Expansion Kit (expansion backplane).

To determine if a Sun Fire V880 system contains the drive type (MAP3735FC 73.4GB) listed above, run the format(1M) command as "root" user and use the "inquiry" command from the format menu as shown in the following example:

3. Symptoms

Should the described issue occur, error messages similar to the following will be displayed on the console during "obdiag" diagnostics in normal mode:
