RAID 10 Migration with Sun StorageTek SAS RAID HBA may cause Data Integrity Issues

1. Impact

Attempting any RAID level migration to or from RAID 10 systems with Sun StorageTek SAS RAID HBAs (with firmware revision 15595 through 15816) may halt the RAID card and could result in loss of the logical drive and may cause data integrity issues.

2. Contributing Factors

This issue can occur on the following platform:

  • Sun StorageTek SAS RAID HBA with firmware versions 15595 through 15816

Notes:

  1. This issue only affects Sun StorageTek SAS RAID HBA 375-3536 with firmware versions 15595 through 15816.
  2. This issue only occurs when attempting a migration procedure to change the RAID level of an existing RAID set, either to or from RAID 10. If this procedure is not being initiated, this issue will not be present.
To determine the current firmware revision level, the following command can be run:

$ arcconf getversion

3. Symptoms

The system may experience immediate command failure, with possible loss of logical drive and loss of data integrity.

4. Workaround

To prevent this issue from occuring until the firmware can be updated, avoid the migration of an existing RAID set to or from RAID 10.

5. Resolution

This issue is addressed on the following platform:

  • Sun StorageTek SAS RAID HBA with firmware versions 15825 or later
which can be downloaded from the following site:
