A mismatch between the CPU FRU prom setting and the cache management code in the Sun System Firmware:

1. Impact

A mismatch between the CPU FRU prom setting and the cache management code in the Sun System Firmware may (under rare circumstances) cause Level 2 cache data to mistakenly be tagged as valid, resulting in potential data corruption.

2. Contributing Factors

This issue can occur on the following platforms:
  • Sun SPARC Enterprise T5140/T5240 Servers with Sun System Firmware 7.1.0.b or 7.1.0.g
Note:  This issue only affects Sun SPARC Enterprise T5140/T5240 Servers.

To determine the Sun System Firmware version installed on the system, query from the Service Processor command line interface using the following commands:

    -> show /HOST

3. Symptoms

There are no predictable symptoms to indicate that this issue has caused data corruption on the system.

There is no workaround for this issue, Please see the Resolution section below.

This issue is addressed on the following platforms:
  • Sun SPARC Enterprise T5140/T5240 Servers with Sun System Firmware 7.1.3.d (as delivered with patch 136936-03) or later
