Solution Type Technical Instruction Sure Solution 1003561.1 : Sun StorEdge[TM] 33x0 and 351x: Host Channel LUN Assignments
PreviouslyPublishedAs 205011 Description This document outlines the number of LUNs that can be designated on the Sun StorEdge[TM] 3310, 3320, 3511, and 3510 arrays under different configurations. Steps to Follow Host Channel LUN Assignments Sun StorEdge 3310/3320 SCSI Array ================================ - Maximum number of LUNs per host ID is 32. - To achieve 128 partitions in a SCSI array, adjust the number of Logical Drives (LDs) and host IDs. For example: 4 host IDs x 4 LDs ==>32 x 4 = 128 LUNs Sun StorEdge 3510 FC/3511 SATA Array (Loop Mode) - 3.x Firmware ====================================== - 4 host channels per controller (0, 1, 4, and 5) - 8 host IDs per host channel (4 PID and 4 SID) - 32 logical unit numbers (LUNs) per host ID - 8 LDs per array - 128 LUNs or partitions for each LD Sun StorEdge 3510 FC/3511 SATA Array (Loop Mode) - 4.x Firmware ====================================== - 4 host channels per controller (0, 1, 4, and 5) - 8 host IDs per host channel (4 PID and 4 SID) - 32 logical unit numbers (LUNs) per host ID - 32 LDs per array - 32 LUNs or partitions for each LD For example: (4 host channels) x (8 IDs per channel) x (32 LUNs per ID) = 1024 LUNs per array Select the FC-AL protocol (loop mode) for environments needing more than 128 LUNs, or where a switched fabric network is not available. It is preferable that no more than four IDs be assigned to a controller on a given host channel. Sun StorEdge 3510 FC/3511 SATA Array (Point-to-Point Mode) ================================================ - 4 host channels per controller - 1 host ID per host channel. - 32 LUNs per host ID For example: (4 host channels) x (1 ID per channel) x (32 LUNs per ID) = 128 LUNs per array Note: If each LUN needs to have dual paths, then 64 dual pathed LUNs are available. Thus, in dual-controller configurations, either the primary or the secondary controller can have an ID assigned, but not both.
