Solution

HOT SWAPPING A POWER SUPPLY

Redundant power supplies enable you to remove and replace a power supply without shutting down the server, provided that the other power supply is online and working.

The following LEDs are lit when a power supply fault is detected:

* Front and rear Service Required LEDs.
* Rear PS Failure LED on the bezel of the server
* Fault LED on the faulty power supply

Note: If a power supply fails and you do not have a replacement available, leave the failed power supply installed to ensure proper airflow in the server.

REMOVING A POWER SUPPLY

Caution: Hazardous voltages are present. To reduce the risk of electric shock and danger to personal health, follow the instructions.

NOTE: If the server is rack mounted, there is no need toremove it from the rack to remove (orinstall) a power supply.

1. Identify which power supply (0 or 1) requires replacement.

A lit (amber) Fault LED on a power supply indicates that a failure was detected.

In addition, the Servcer Processor's showfaults command at the sc> prompt, indicates which power supply is faulty. The output of the sc> showenvironment command includes the status of the power supplies.

2. Gain access to the rear of the server where the faulty power  supply is located.

3. If the serer is rack mounted, release the cable management arm (CMA) The CMA is located at the rear of the server rack.

a. Press and hold the tab.

b. Rotate the cable management arm out of the way so that you can access the power supply.

4. Disconnect the power cord from the faulty power supply.

5. Grasp the power supply handle and press the release latch.

6. Pull the power supply out of  the chassis.

---

INSTALLING A POWER SUPPLY

1. Align the replacement power supply with the empty power  supply chassis bay.

2. Slide the power supply in to the bay until it is fully seated.

3. Reconnect the power cord to the power supply.  Verify that the AC Present LED is lit

4. If the server is rack mounted, Close the CMA, inserting the  end of the CMA into the rear left rail bracket.

5. Verify that the Fault LED on the replaced power supply, the system Power Supply Fault LED, and the front and rear Service Required LEDs are not lit.

6. At the ALOM CMT sc> prompt, type the showenvironment command to verify the status of the power supplies.
