PreviouslyPublishedAs 206142 Description Installing & configuring the Sun[TM] Remote System Control software for the Sun Enterprise[TM] 250 Server Internal Raid Storage Option[TM] Steps to Follow The following is a step by step set of instructions for installing and configuring the RSC (Remote System Control) software on the E250 and the remote machine. RSC allows a remote user to control a E250 server in ways that were previously only possible when physically at the server (console access, power on/off, reset, bootmode). It logs information to facilitate diagnosing a E250 server. It will alert an administrator when it detects certain events, such as host resets and critical environmental status, via an alphanumeric pager and/or an email message. Considerations: 1. The E250 must have the Boot PROM firmware at 3.7.7 minimum. Patch ID 106503-xx. Instruction are included in the README file for downloading the firmware. 2. There is firmware that gets loaded into the RSC PROM during installation of the RSC Software. 3. The remote system that will run the RSC GUI must have JDK (Java SE 6 Development Kit[TM]) 1.1.6 or later installed on it. 4. RSC is only supported on ethernet at FCS. 5. Here are the document numbers for the User and Installation guides: Sun Remote System Control (RSC) Installation Guide 805-5680-11 Sun Remote System Control (RSC) User's Guide 805-3722-11 6. The software can be pulled from the web at the following site: http://www.sun.com/servers/entry/250/ Installing the RSC GUI side: 1. Install the JDK 1.1.6 or later packages (SUNWjvman & SUNWjvrt). 2. Run the "RSC.sh" script to install the SUNWrscj package. (Option 2) Installing the RSC Server (E250) side: 1. Run the "RSC.sh" script to install the SUNWrscj package. (Option 1) 2. Run the following command to config RSC on the E250: /usr/platform/sun4u/sbin/rsc-config EXAMPLE OF A RUN OF THE SCRIPT: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Continue with RSC setup (y|n): y Set RSC date/time now (y|n|?)
