Solution Type Technical Instruction Sure Solution 1005438.1 : Sun Fire[TM] 215/245 Default password for Advanced Ligths Out Management
PreviouslyPublishedAs 207560 Description Initially entering the Advanced Lights Out Management (ALOM) processor through the network management port asks you for a password. Steps to Follow If you enter the ALOM processor for the first time using the network management port, enter admin at the sc login prompt. The default password is determined by the last eight characters of the host systems chassis serial number. For example, if the chassis serial number is 0628AE81D0, then the default password is 28AE81D0. If you use the 'setdefaults -a' command, the admin password for the network port returns to the default, which is the last eight characters of the chassis serial number. You then set the password using the password command. The password security guidelines are the same as those within the Solaris[TM] OS. When you have set the admin password, on subsequent reboots, the sc login prompt is displayed. Enter admin for the user and when prompted, enter the password that you just set. This applies only to the network port. For the serial port, there is no password required initially however, the user must enter a new admin password upon successful login. If the admin password has been programmed via the serial port, then none of the above applies and a user would need to use the programmed password on both the network connection and the serial connection.
