Solution

Steps to Follow

How do I configure a local/global spare on a Sun  Storage 3310, 3320, 3510 or 3511 Array?

In this example, the global spare is created on disk 3.0

Create Global Spare with sccli:

# sccli configure global-spare 3.0

In this example we created a local spare from disk 3, logical drive 0.

Create Local Spare with sccli:

# sccli configure local-spare 3.0  ld0

Create Global or Local Spare with telnet or serial connection:

1.  Telnet or tip thru serial port to array.

# telnet 10.1.229.120

10.1.229.120 is the address of your Sun StorEdge disk.

Or

# tip -38400 /dev/ttyb

2.  Select  view and edit Drives

3.  Select a disk drive in the table.

4.  Select either  add Local spare drive  or  add Global spare drive  from the submenu.

5.  For local spares, select the logical drive that the spare will be associated.

5.  Select 'yes' when prompted.
