Solution

Remove the system's top cover.

Implement all the usual anti-static-discharge methods...

* Prepare an antistatic surface to set parts on during  the removal, installation, or replacement process.

* Place ESD-sensitive components such as the printed circuit boards on an antistatic mat. The following items can be used as an antistatic mat:

• Antistatic bag used to wrap a Sun  replacement part
• Sun ESD mat, part number 250-1088
• A disposable ESD mat (shipped with some  replacement parts or optional system  components)

*  Attach an antistatic wrist strap.

When servicing or removing server components, attach an antistatic strap to your wrist and then to a metal area on the chassis.

REMOVING THE T5120/5220 HARD DISK CAGE

After removing the System from the Rack..place it on a hard flat surface.

Specific to the T5120: Remove the inner glides from the server. Each inner glide is secured with a locking tab. Release the tab and slide each inner glide off the server mounting studs.

Attach an antistatic wrist strap.

Remove the system's top cover.

If you are servicing the hard drive backplane, remove all hard drives.

If you are servicing the hard drive backplane, remove the DVD/USBmodule.

Specific to the T5220: Remove the fan modules.

Specific to the T5220: Remove the fan power boards.

Remove the No.2 Phillips screws securing the hard drive cage to the chassis.

Two screws secure the disk cage to each side of the chassis.

Slide the hard drive cage forward to disengage the backplane from the paddle card.

Disconnect the hard drive data cable(s).

* Push the plug into the connector.

* Press the release button.

* Remove the plug from the connector on the hard  drive backplane.

Lift the hard drive cage up and out of the chassis.

Set the hard drive cage on an antistatic mat.

REMOVING THE HARD DISK BACKPLANE

Remove the hard drive cage.

Remove the No.2 Phillips screws securing the backplane to the hard drive cage.

Two screws secure the backplane in the T5120.

Four screws secure the backplane in the T5220.

Slide the backplane down and off the harddrive cage retention hooks.

Place the hard drive backplane on an antistatic mat.

INSTALLING THE HARD DISK BACKPLANE

Slide the backplane under the retention hooks on the hard drive cage.

Install the No.2 Phillips screws which secure the backplane to the hard drive cage.

Two screws secure the backplane in the T5120.

Four screws secure the backplane in the T5220.

INSTALLING THE T5120/5220 HARD DISK CAGE

Position the hard drive cage in the chassis, over its standoffs.

Ensure that you correctly route the cables and match and mate their plugs correctly to the sockets.

To connect the hard drive data cable(s), press the plug into its socket until the plug snaps into place.

Slide the hard drive cage back until the hard drive backplane engages with the paddle card connector.

Replace the No.2 Phillips screws to secure the hard drive cage to the chassis.

Two screws secure the disk cage to each side of the chassis.

Specific to the T5220: Install the fan power boards.

Specific to the T5220: Install the fan modules.

Install the topcover.

Specific to the T5120: Install the inner glides.

Slide each inner glide onto the mounting studs on the server until it snaps into place.

Specific to the T5120: Install the server into the rack.

Install the hard drives.

Install the DVD/USB module.

Plug in the system's power cord(s).

If the system administrator would like the Host powered-up, that can be done using the front panel power button or via a login to the SP's   root or admin  accounts  and the appropriate   START or  poweron, respectively, may be used.
