DescriptionThis document provides the basic steps to review pool state, configuration, and settings information using the Browser or SSCS user interfaces. Use this document if:
- Pools are not listed in the User Interface(UI)
- Pools are missing information
- Pool information is incorrect
- Syntax/Usage is needed to get pool state/details
For basic administrative tasks on the Sun StorEdge[TM] 6920 System, please reference
Steps to FollowSun StorEdge[TM] 6920 System: Validating Pool State and Details:
A. Validate Pool Summary
The basic usage for listing all of the pools can be obtained by:
SSCS
sscs list -S pool
This will display:
* The Pool Name
* The storage domain the pool is a part of
BUI
- Click on Configuration Services or Common Array Manager link
- Click on Logical Storage Tab or menu tree
- Click on Pools tab or menu tree
This will display a list of pools with the following information:
* Pool name
* Storage Profile
* Storage Domain
* State(shows In Use or Not in Use states only)
* Total Capacity of the pool(configured capacity plus available capacity)
* Configured Capacity(amount in use by volumes and log devices)
* Available Capacity(Total unused capacity of vdisks, This does not include unused disk drives in trays.
For a more detailed view of a pool go to Step B.
B. Validating Volume Details
SSCS
sscs list pool pool_name
This will display the following field information:
* Pool name
* Pool description
* Profile name
* Total Capacity
* Unallocated Capacity
* Allocated Capacity
* Vdisks(shows the vdisk name and status
* Volumes(shows as a list of all volumes in the pool)
* Arrays(shows a list of all of the arrays that have vdisks in this pool)
BUI
- Click on Configuration Services or Common Array Manager link
- Click on Logical Storage Tab or menu tree
- Click on Pools tab or menu tree
- Click on Pool Name link
This will display the following field information:
- Pool name
- Pool Description
- Storage Profile
- Storage Domain
- State(shows In Use or Not in Use states only)
- Total Capacity of the pool(configured capacity plus available capacity)
- Configured Capacity(amount in use by volumes and log devices)
- Available Capacity(Total unused capacity of vdisks, This does not include unused disk drives in trays.
- In a table it will list the number and link you to a summary page for the following items under the Additional Details Section: Volumes and VDisks.
Consider the following actions:
* If you are concerned about the capacity values displayed, go to Step C.
* If you are missing information about the pool go to Step D.
* If the Pool details are correct, you have completed this document. Return to step 2 of document <Document: 1009915.1> Troubleshooting Sun StorEdge[TM] 6920 Configuration Problems.
C. Validating Size
The pool capacities listed are shown as follows:
- Capacities will always be listed in Gigabytes(GB) or Terabytes(TB) out to the second decimal place for sscs(rounded down) or the third decimal place for the BUI(rounded down). Capacities will be displayed in units of GB if less than 1024GB is available in the pool. Otherwise they will be displayed in TB.
- The Total Capacity is sum of all allocated/used and unallocated vdisk space in the pool.
If the pool size is missing, or appears incorrect, go to Step D.
If the Pool size is correct, you have completed this document. Return to step 2 of document <Document: 1009915.1> Troubleshooting Sun StorEdge[TM] 6920 Configuration Problems.
D. Data Collection for Missing or Incorrect Pool Information
Please Collect the following information:
- 6920 Solution Extract. Reference document <Document: 1003756.1> How to collect an extractor from a Sun StorEdge[TM] 6920 (2.x and 3.x)
- sscs list pool showing pool detail(or lack)
- sscs list vdisk <vdisk name> for each vdisk in the pool
- sscs list volume <volume name> for each volume in the pool
- screen capture of BUI screen showing volume detail(or lack)
