Description
How do I install the LSI firmware update on my Sun Fire[TM] x4100,Sun Fire[TM] x4200 ?

Steps to Follow
There are three methods to do this.
First Method: Remotely
-----------------------
If you are commencing this using the ILOM webgui, your procedure is as follows:
(This is an example for the X4100,X4200 SW 1.2.1 download materials - the LSI .iso file/other associated files maybe different for subsequent updates)
1. Connect to the ILOM via a supported browser.
http://<ilom ip>
Select
Remote Control | Redirection
select either 'I want to see 8 bit' or '16 bit color'
Hit the 'Launch Redirection' button - after having hit a couple of
checkboxes that pop up
at the login prompt for the JavaRconsole window , type root , then your
ilom login password.
In the JavaRconsole window, select 'Devices' from the top menu on that
window.
select 'cdrom image' - at the popup screen , then supply the location of
FW110_B60606A.iso - (obtainable from the X4100,X4200 software download site)
Once you have that .iso image successfully attached - you will see a
check mark on that drop down menu selection.
Now reset the system - go to the Management ILOM GUI again,
'Remote Control' | 'Remote Power Control'
Select Action 'reset' from the Power drop down menu.
When the system reboots , from the JavaRconsole window you will be
prompted with two selections,
1. Perform the update
2. Exit utility.
select 1.
Once complete - it will drop down to a C> prompt , from the JavaRconsole
window
select Devices | unselect 'cdrom image'
select Keyboard | CTRL-ALT-DEL
On system boot up - you will notice the new firmware version for the lsi
utility.
Second Update Method: Locally
-----------------------------
Download the following files from the X4100,X4200 website (these are files
supplied for the SW 1.2.1 Update)
B60606A.rom
mptutil.exe
DOS4GW.EXE
update.bat
SUNFW110.IR
These are files that can be loaded onto a boot floppy or cd ...
update.bat from a bootable floppy does this :
Mptutil -o -f SUNFW110.IR
mptutil -o -b B60606A.ROM
MPTUTIL.EXE. requires the DOS extender, DOS4GW.EXE, to operate. LSI
Logic strongly recommends that you copy both files to a DOS bootable diskette and that you execute the utility from this diskette.
Third Update Method: Locally
-----------------------------
Download the .iso file supplied for the LSI firmware from the official Sun x4100,x4200 softwdownload site. Create a bootable cd from this .iso using your preferred
cd creation software. Insert the new CD into the x4100,x4200. Reboot your system
. If you have not altered the boot order from the BIOS Menu (accessible by pressing F2) - the LSI software will boot and the firmware will then be upgraded.
Reboot the system.
DO NOT POWER OFF THE SYSTEM UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES WHILE AN UPDATE IS TAKING PLACE.
