Description
The purpose of this document is to provide basic steps for profile
modification for the 6920 array, via the Browser User Interface(BUI) or
sscs Command Line Interface(CLI).

Content will be limited to a basic usage using the CLI or BUI interface for creating profiles, and provide help with some usage failure scenarios
for this activity. Consider reviewing some of the following documents if you
are looking to perform actions beyond the scope of this document:

Steps to Follow
Validating Modification of Profiles on a StorEdge[TM] 6920

A. Validate that the profile is not a factory profile

Verify the type of profile. If it is listed as a Type of Factory, it cannot be modified from the system. Reference document < Solution: 211582 >  Validating Profile State and Status on a StorEdge 6920 (TM)

If the type of the profile is not Factory, continue to Step B.

B. Validate that the profile is not In Use

Verify the status of the profile. Reference document < Solution: 211582 > Validating Profile State and Status on a StorEdge 6920 (TM)

If the Status shows In Use, then there is at least one Storage Pool
still using the profile, and must be deleted before the profile can be removed.

Reference document <Document: 1009823.1>  Validating StorEdge(TM) 6920 Pool Deletion

If the Profile Status is Not In Use, continue Step C.

C. Profile Modification

Note: You cannot modify the default factory profiles. If a user-created profile's state is In Use, you can change only the profile name and description. A profile is in the In Use state when it is associated with a storage pool.

BUI

  1. Click Sun StorEdge 6920 Configuration Service > Logical Storage > Profiles.
The Storage Profile Summary page is displayed.
  2. Select the storage profile that you want to modify. The Storage Profile Details page is displayed.
  3. Make the appropriate modifications, and click Save. Reference document <Document: 1005592.1> Validating Profile Creation on the Sun StorEdge[TM] 6920

SSCS

You can modify any field of the profile with a single command. The option
descriptions are identical to that of creating a profile. Reference document <Document: 1005592.1> Validating Profile Creation on the Sun StorEdge[TM] 6920

The difference is simply to substitute the create command option with the
modify command option.

Usage:

sscs modify -r <RAID> -v <virt_strategy> -t <array_type> -s <segment> -p <stripe> -N <new_Name> -d <description> -D <hotspare> -k <disk_type> -h <read_ahead> -n <num_drives> profile <profile_name>

Example:

sscs modify -r 5 -N raid5profile profile raid1profile

This command will change the RAID level of the profile to RAID 1, and the name of the profile from raid1profile to raid5profile.

D. Verify the Change in the Profile

Reference document <Document: 1007159.1>  Validating Profile State and Details for Sun StorEdge[TM] 6920

E. Deletion Failure
