PreviouslyPublishedAs 212662 Description Sometimes, while examining through the /var/adm/messages file on V210/V240, you might come across critical kernel messages reporting unretrieved messages from the System Controller (SC). Example: rmclomv: [ID 917403 kern.crit] SC unretrieved msg FEB 20 07:38:38 2004 UTC [SC System booted.] Steps to Follow The SC message indicates that the Advance Lights Out Management (ALOM) on the V210/V240 system has completed booting up. This DOES NOT suggest faulty hardware. Example of how to reproduce the message: 1.) tail -f /var/adm/messages (Before resetting the ALOM). Apr 6 10:19:15 v4u-v240a last message repeated 1 time Apr 6 14:44:02 v4u-v240a rmclomv: [ID 852376 kern.error] SC Login Failure for user root. 2.) login to serial management console and reset the ALOM. Sun(tm) Advanced Lights Out Manager 1.3 (v4u-v240a) Please login: admin Please Enter password: ***** sc> resetsc Are you sure you want to reset the SC [y/n]? y User Requested SC Shutdown SC Alert: SC System booted. [SC Status 7fff - OK] Enter #. to return to ALOM. Apr 6 15:08:05 v4u-v240a rmclomv: SC unretrieved msg APR 06 07:08:02 2004 UTC [SC System booted.] <--- 3.) Apr 6 15:08:05 v4u-v240a rmclomv: [ID 758022 kern.crit] SC unretrieved msg APR 06 07:08:02 2004 UTC [SC System booted.] <--- The message is not critical, it informs you that the ALOM has just booted. The message is informational in nature. No hardware replacement is required.
