PreviouslyPublishedAs 214923 Description Items to collect/check for SE99X0 data migration and a framework for an action plan. Steps to Follow This is the framework document that was used to migrate 70TB of EMC storage to SE99X0 using Veritas Volume Manager. <SYSTEM NAME> SE9980 Data Migration Plan Purpose: To permanently attach the new SE9980 to <SYSTEM NAME> via fiber ports and use Veritas DMP to manage the paths. The data on the EMC will be migrated to the SE9980 and the EMC will be removed from the system. Problems / Concerns: *** To be listed as needed for each system after the following data is collected *** System Info: (1) OS: (2) VXVM: y/n (3) VXFS: y/n (4) DMP: y/n (5) PowerPath:y/n (6) Related ST99xx Storage Patches: Reference http://www.hds.com/products/interoperability/ for product interoperability documentation. (7) Host Open Slots: (8) SAN attach y/n - What type of switch: - Firmware level: Action Plan: This Action Plan will take two system times is broken into 5 sections: (1) Prework (2) First system time: will be X hours and will let us prepare the system to attach the SE9980. (3) Data Migration Steps can be done while the machine is running. (4) Second system time X hours to detach the EMC (5) Post migration cleanup. DATES: Prework: System Time #1: Data Migrations: System Time #2: Clean-up: *** PreWork Start *** (1) Create/Edit copies of the sd.conf, /etc/vfstab , /etc/system. (2) Download and ftp any SW and patches to the hosts. *** PreWork End *** *** System Time #1 Start *** (1) Resync the BCV Volumes (If BCV/Shadowimage is used). (2) Backups: ufsdump OS to tape backup. Verify that the backups of the other data are good. (3) In Single User. Install the related patches. (4) Edit the sd.conf files as needed. Depends on driver/cards used. (5) Attach the
SE99X0 cables. (7) Boot to multiuser. (8) Verify that the SE9980 LUNs are seen through DMP on all paths. *** System Time #1 End *** *** Data Migration Start *** (1) Migrate the data: - Add SE9980 LUNS to Veritas diskgroups - Add configuration copies to the new disks - Mirror the data EMC to SE9980 - Allow the mirrors to run in sync 48 hours (2) Break off the EMC side of the mirrors and remove the EMC storage from the diskgroups and Veritas. *** Data Migration End *** *** System Time #2 Start *** (1) Clean up the
sd.conf file and remove the EMC LUN entries. This will speed up the
boot time a considerable amount. (3) Remove
PowerPath (As Needed). (5) Move the cables from the temporary fiber cards to the JNI Cards. (6) Put in place the final sd.conf file. (7) Reconfigure boot back to single-user, verify that the SE99X0 LUNs are available. (8) Check vxdisk list to verify that Veritas sees the SE99X0 LUNs on the new paths. (9) Boot to
multiuser. *** System Time #2 End *** *** Cleanup start *** (1) Scrub the old storage if needed - box before lease return. (2) Any other cleanup needed. *** Cleanup end *** Product Sun StorageTek 9980 System Sun StorageTek 9970 System Sun StorageTek 9960 System Sun StorageTek 9910 System Sun StorageTek 9900V Series Array Sun StorageTek 9985 System Sun StorageTek 9990 System Sun StorageTek 9985V System Sun StorageTek 9990V System data migration, SE99X0 Previously Published As 77159 Change History Date: 2009-11-30 User Name: Bob.King@Sun.COM Action: Approved Comment: review and updated for IBIS Version: 0 Attachments This solution has no attachment |
